I’m a historian of the modern United States. My research and writing focus particularly on environmental, economic, and political history.
Born and raised in western North Carolina, my family and I now live in Cleveland, Ohio where I am completing my Ph.D. in History from Case Western Reserve University.
When I’m not in the library, teaching, or dutifully writing at my desk, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I especially enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, and generally being out in nature – although my outdoor activity has been far less frequent than it was once upon a time. Little family adventures with my wife and our two amazing children have occupied the time that used to be devoted to solitary treks, and they have steadily become my new definition of joy.
